The monitoring tools I use
General
btop
My favorite top-like, although I still use htop sometimes as well. Also bottom is new and pretty neat.
dstat
For getting a simple log of disk/network usage still (even thought development stopped), this is my go-to, a lot simpler to use than sysstat although the latter is a lot more flexible. There is a community fork of dstat called dool
s-tui
This is particularly good for stress testing
Memory
ps_mem
For tracking actual memory usage, this is the best
Disk
iotop
this is good if you need to look at per-process disk usage
Network
nethogs
if you need per-process network usage
- bandwhich
- mtr
- iftop
- iptraf-ng
- nload
vnstat vnstat-client
darkstat
CPU
- turbostat
- ryzenadj
- rapl-read-ryzen
- lstopo
GPU
nvtop
Despite the name, this works for other GPUs too. See also radeontop
Depending on your GPU, you can use nvidia-smi or rocm-smi to get more information.
Processes
- pstree
System Info
These fetch-likes give you single screen summaries (more for fun than anything else)
- archey
- neofetch
- screenfetch
For more serious system dumps:
- decode-dimms
- dmidecode
- inxi
- hwinfo
- hw-probe
- i2cdetect
- lshw You can see these at work here: https://github.com/lhl/linuxlaptops/wiki/Minisforum-UM790-Pro#hardware-in-linux
